In the Nineteenth Century, cupids, flowers were all symbols of love, popular themes for the jewelry which was so frequently given as a token of affection. As in this pair of rare coral cherub earrings from Victorian era.
Cherubs have been portrayed in various forms, the Victorians had a true passion for the angel-like figures used to convey a spectrum of emotions including romance and love.
Here a romantic and powerful symbol contained gracefully in a pair of Victorian natural coral handcarved cherub earrings presumably Italian.
A wonderfullly hand carved coral composition showcasing two cherubs with fine features of wavy hair, chubby cheeks delicately rendered, carved wings , each framed by graceful ornaments all rendered in perfectly matched coral.
Being hand made each cherub is slightly different from the other, also typical of the time the thoughtful design makes one a left and one right, they can be worn toward or away from the face.
Artfully crafted in 14 Kt yellow gold, tested.
Very good overall conditions commensurate to use and age.
