There is a joy celebrating the memory of your furry best friend, double is the joy here with these two sweet and funny, beautifully depicted Pinscher dogs in crystal reverse intaglio on a gold pair of earrings from Victorian era.

In an ode to the connection between humans and animals here is presented an extraordinary example of a Victorian reverse crystal intaglio, also called crystal essex, depicting two pinscher dogs.

Originating around the mid 1800s, this style of carving is referred to as an Essex crystal: a cabochon of clear rock crystal has been carved on the flat side and splendidly hand painted in minute detail to capture a superb three-dimensional realistic image enhanced by a back layer of mother of pearl.

Astonishing details and intense naturalistic colouring add to the wonderment of the rendering of the loved canine. Charming and detailed, these realistic dogs are rendered in inky blacks, chocolate browns to umber, red and pearlescent white for their collars, with expressive eyes, fine details and various shades were chosen to complete this work of art.

Their soulful expression gazes out, tender and funny; they almost seem to leap out of the rock crystal into your heart. Clearly beloved pets, expressive eyes capture the viewer’s gaze.

Beautifully set on bezel mounting and twisted wire joining at the top, in triangular shape, on ear wire made for pierced ears, they may be worn facing outward on inward. Artfully craftyed in 18 Kt yellow gold, tested.
